Kanye West (Kanye Omari West), also known as Ye (born June 8, 1977 in Atlanta, Georgia) is an American rapper, singer, record producer, and fashion designer.

His career began as a hip hop producer in Chicago, and later in New York, where he produced music for rapper Jay-Z, on whose successful album The Blueprint he played an instrumental role. West has also worked closely with singer John Legend and rapper Common, both signed to his label GOOD Music. Since the end of 2003, he has been releasing his own singles and albums, mainly acting as a rapper and producer.

West is considered one of the defining hip hop and pop musicians of the 21st century. Influenced by various musical genres, he was instrumental in hip hop’s commercial transition from gangsta rap to more emotional, often sung content. Over 60 million records have been sold and downloaded in the US alone, making him one of the world’s most successful musicians. Time included him among the 100 most influential people in the world in 2005 and 2015. In 2020, his fortune was estimated at more than three billion US dollars by Bloomberg and Forbes. It is estimated at $1.8 billion.
