These are the top cryptocurrencies of 2024 according to CoinMarketCap
Data aggregator CoinMarketCap held the so-called CMC Crypto Awards for the first time . The platform wants to honor projects that have made special achievements for the crypto market.
CMC selects the top cryptocurrencies in various categories – this time for 2024. CoinMarketCap itself compares the award ceremony with a well-known US film award.
Think of it as a kind of “Oscars for crypto” – a fun way to bring the entire industry together and honor the special people, products and projects that are pushing crypto and the Web3 forward.
The election is made up of a combination of data, expert opinions and votes on CMC. Voting took place in eight different categories.
The prizes will be issued as NFTs via the Ethereum blockchain and will remain there as a unique souvenir for ages. A few minutes ago CMC announced the winners via YouTube .
That’s why Solana is the top cryptocurrency of 2024
Solana (SOL) won the 2024 cryptocurrency prize. The project has experienced a very changeable time since 2022. After the collapse of FTX, the blockchain lost significant popularity until it made a brilliant return in 2023.
CMC wants to recognize this return with the award. What is also particularly noteworthy is the great support that the project has consistently received from its users – even during the difficult times.
The smart contract platform is currently the fifth largest cryptocurrency in terms of market capitalization. Solana has recently been particularly successful as a favorite of institutional investors, as a popular blockchain for memecoins and for sending stablecoins.
Bitcoin is excluded from the election because otherwise the market leader would “win every year.”
This is the top memecoin of 2024
The top memecoin of 2024 according to CMC is Bonk (BONK). The token lives on the Solana blockchain. In 2023, the project unexpectedly went through the roof and has remained among the 100 largest cryptocurrencies ever since.
At the time of going to press, Bonk is ranked 50th among all cryptos. Over the last seven days, the project has increased by around 100 percent. Despite its lack of use, the fun currency is very popular with investors and is primarily used for speculation.
Head of authority elected top crypto personality
CMC also announced winners in other categories. Asset manager BlackRock was named the most important bridge builder. The investment company brought new attention to Bitcoin after filing for a Bitcoin Spot ETF in June 2023.
The application was finally confirmed in January 2024 alongside ten competing applications, bringing a new investment product onto the market in the USA. Bitcoin can reach the target group of institutional and conservative investors better than ever before.
Since then, more than nine billion US dollars have flowed into the crypto market. Apparently this capital also plays a role in the breakout of the Bitcoin price over the last few days.
Blockchain analyst ZachXBT was voted the scene’s most important influencer. The modular blockchain Celestia (TIA) won the award as the most innovative blockchain of the year.
The NFT collection Pudgy Penguins won the award as the most innovative project in the NFT & Gaming category and the long-established DEX Uniswap.
A head of an authority also received a prize. Julia Leung, head of the Hong Kong Securities and Exchange Commission SFC, was chosen as one of the winners in the “Crypto Personality of the Year” category .
Under Leung’s leadership, Hong Kong opened up to cryptocurrencies and will soon offer crypto spot ETFs. The SFC is already accepting registrations.
